AI Menu Import: Turn Your Paper Menu Into a QR Menu From a Photo or PDF
You already have a menu. Photograph it or upload the PDF, answer the questions the AI asks, check the draft and publish it as a QR menu your guests open on their phone.
AI menu import turns the menu you already have into a doXmenu QR menu. You photograph each page or upload the PDF, and doXmenu reads the sections, dishes, prices, descriptions, ingredients and allergens, translates them into your other menu languages and asks you about anything it is not sure of. The result is a draft: nothing reaches your guests until you have checked it and pressed Publish. Your time goes into answering a few questions instead of typing out the whole menu.
What does AI menu import read?
It reads a printed menu and builds the same menu in doXmenu:
- Menus and sections, such as Food and Drinks, Starters or Cocktails
- Dishes and drinks, with their names and descriptions
- Prices, with their currency
- Ingredients and allergens, where the menu lists them
- Diet tags: Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Low Carb, Spicy and Honey
While it builds the menu, it also translates it into the other languages of your venue, up to six languages. You can correct any line by hand afterwards.
What can I upload?
Photos taken with your phone (JPG, PNG, WEBP or the iPhone's HEIC) or a PDF of the menu, up to 40 pages. A menu kept in Word, Excel or PowerPoint needs to be saved as a PDF first. One photo per page works best.
How do I take photos it can read?
- Lay the page flat on a table, in daylight or under a bright light, and avoid flash reflections on laminated menus.
- Hold the phone straight above the page so the whole page is in the photo, prices included.
- Take one page per photo. A folded menu is two or three photos.
- If a stain or a crease runs across the prices, retake the page: a clear photo saves you a question later.
How does it work, step by step?
- Choose AI import. A new account is offered three ways to build its first menu: from a template, with AI import, or from blank.
- Upload the photos or the PDF. You can add all the pages at once.
- Let doXmenu read the menu. It takes a few minutes, and you do not have to wait in front of the screen: you get an email when it is ready.
- Answer the questions. Where the menu is unclear, doXmenu asks you instead of guessing.
- Check the draft and publish. The menu arrives as a draft. Look it over, change anything you like, then press Publish.
- Make it yours. Add your dish photos, pick a font style and a palette, then download your QR codes from the QR screen: one for the menu and one for each table, as PNG, SVG or PDF.
What does it ask me about?
Guests trust a menu with their money and their allergies, so doXmenu asks rather than guesses when:
- the menu's languages disagree about a meat or an allergen, for example the Macedonian line of a dish says veal while the English line says pork fillet
- an allergen symbol is crossed out or cannot be read
- one dish has two prices
- a currency looks wrong
Questions about a meat or an allergen are never guessed: your menu cannot be published until they are answered. You know which answer is true; a guess would be wrong half the time.
What does it not do?
It does not create photos of your dishes and it does not design your menu. You add your own dish photos, and you choose the look yourself: 16 font styles, 70 ready-made palettes in 10 groups by type of venue, or six colours you set yourself (page, cards, accent, dish page, primary and secondary text), with an eyedropper to pick them from your logo. Your logo and a background photo complete it.
What does it cost?
AI menu import is included in every doXmenu plan, like every other feature: 14.99€ a month, 13.99€ a month billed every 6 months, or 12.99€ a month billed yearly. Each account can create 2 AI menus a day and 10 a month. The first month is free and no card is needed. See the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn a paper menu into a QR menu from a photo?
Yes. With doXmenu AI menu import you photograph each page of the menu, or upload a PDF, and doXmenu reads the sections, dishes, prices, descriptions, ingredients and allergens into a draft QR menu that you check and publish.
Which files can I upload?
JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC photos, or a PDF of up to 40 pages. Save a Word, Excel or PowerPoint menu as a PDF first.
What happens if the AI is not sure about something?
It asks you, for example when one dish has two prices, a currency looks wrong or an allergen symbol is crossed out. A question about a meat or an allergen must be answered before the menu can be published.
Does AI menu import add photos of my dishes or design my menu?
No. It reads the text of the menu. You add your own dish photos afterwards and choose the design: 16 font styles, 70 palettes or your own colours.
Does it translate my menu?
Yes. It translates the menu into the other languages of your venue as it builds it, up to six languages, and you can correct any line by hand.
How long does it take?
A few minutes. You get an email when the draft is ready.
Is AI menu import free?
It is included in every doXmenu plan, with up to 2 AI menus a day and 10 a month per account. The first month of doXmenu is free with no card needed.
